An Integrative Approach to Mental Health

Enhancing Mental Wellness

Hello, I am Hillary Wynn, M.D. As a parent of seven adult children, four of whom were adopted, I am well versed in treatment strategies that address trauma, foster care and adoption issues. Individuals and families are challenged with circumstances and unhealthy lifestyles that are difficult to navigate.  This is especially true for our youth and adults that had traumatic beginnings. The “relationship” is what is needed for emotional healing in youth with developmental trauma and it requires patience and time to develop. The quality of the “relationship” is dependent upon trust and unconditional love.  Medications and psychotherapies often help manage or treat ADHD, depression, PTSD or other mental health problems.  My unique personal and professional experience in this area could be of great benefit to families and caregivers. I have also parented and treated children with intellectual disability, which often times requires adaptations of various treatment approaches.

I have been a psychiatrist for over 25 years and my approach is integrative psychiatry. There are many people that have had limited success with psychotropic medications alone. As you may know, medication(s) may not result in patients becoming symptom free or fully functional. I use medication management and various therapeutic approaches such as psychotherapy (interpersonal, supportive, insight oriented and ACT),  behavioral therapy (CBT & Exposure Response Prevention), nutritional supplements, diet, monitoring hormone levels, spirituality, mindfulness, guided imagery, relaxation techniques, and social skills training. This approach supports a very individualized approach to obtaining wellness.

I treat the full range of psychiatric disorders, and have particular passion and expertise in treating OCD; a diagnosis which is not recognized or is too often misdiagnosed for years.  The populations I work with are children, adolescents and adults under the age of 55. I am a double board certified General and Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist and earned my Medical degree from Drexel University (previously Hahnemann University).  My general and child & adolescent psychiatric training was completed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic.
